Deacon Tom Fox’s HOMILY

Posted by Mary Jane at 2:19 pm | Evangelization

The following is a part from Deacon Tom’s Homily -  In the Gospel Jesus shows us how we can make progress in developing the virtue of humility.   He advises us that if we would go to a banquet not to seek the place of honor but to go to a lower place. In other words we should not seek recognition as if it is due us.   This does not mean that if in the course of your career you have accomplished something that deserves a just reward that you let it pass without notice. It does mean that we should not place ourselves above others and clamor for recognition.

SAINT OF THE WEEK:  St. Monica Feast Day:  August 27       Patron Saint of: Mothers

PEARL OF THE WEEK:  “Jesus Has A Question For You” by Msgr. Richard C. Antall. 978-0-87973-985-0 (ID#985), 208 pp., $11.95

A strikingly unique series of meditations on the 41 questions Jesus asks of his followers in the Gospels.  What will you answer when Jesus asks you?
“Who do you say that I am?” Maybe that sounds like an easy one if we remember our catechism. How about this one: “Why are you afraid?”

Jesus asked His disciples these questions 2,000 years ago, and he’s still asking them today. How will we answer? Long a favorite for his spellbinding stories and his profound knowledge of Scripture, Msgr. Richard C. Antall — a missionary priest who lived through the civil war in El Salvador — brings us a strikingly different series of meditations on the 41 questions Jesus asks in the Gospels.

You’ll be inspired, disturbed, uplifted, and challenged. If you try to answer the questions Jesus asks, you might even be changed forever.

Theology of the Body pt. 7

Posted by Mary Jane at 8:58 am | Catholicism Live, Evangelization

How realistic are the Church’s teachings on sexuality? Tune in to the June 9 episode of ‘Catholicism Live!’ Our Theology of the Body series hosts Alan Becker and David Delaney will discuss this topic under the theme: “It’s Not Hard, but It is Humanly Impossible!” Follow along with these reflection & discussion questions:

How can the Church say that something like abortion or contraception is wrong for everyone when they do not know each person’s personal circumstances and motivations?
How can the Church say that everyone must follow his conscience and then still call certain acts (such contraception) sinful?
• Some claim that the Church is against human freedom because of all the rules they place on her members (sex outside of marriage, contraception, abortion, clerical celibacy, etc.). How do we respond to this?
